White coats, complex instruments, and endless studying – this is generally how doctors are viewed worldwide, and sadly that can create a disconnect between them and the patients.
Therefore we feel that it’s essential to break the barrier and share with you a little about the doctor who is treating you. So, without further adieu, here are some tidbits about Dr. Javier Sanz.
Javier was born and bought up in the city of Barcelona in Spain. His curiosity in biology, as well as art, led him towards the path of Dentistry. He completed his specialty in Prosthodontics from the Universidad Internacional of Catalunya. After years of practice, he decided to take a risk for his true passion – surgery.
He moved across the world to do a second specialization in Periodontics from the State University of New York at Buffalo. During his residency, he met another great love, his wife, Dr. Nancy Pancko, who was doing her residency in Orthodontics. They got married during their residency and shifted back to Spain.
In Spain, he finished a Ph.D. in periodontal lasers, authored multiple research articles, and received a plethora of accolades. However, after six years of intense work, he decided to move back to the US to support his wife. Initially, they settled in northern Virginia, where he started a private practice alongside his academic career. Dr. Sanz is also a proud Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
However, he is not all books and degrees. Javier loves to cook like a true Spaniard. He can often be spotted on tennis courts and enjoys skiing and golf. The couple loves traveling together with their four kids as it allows them the time they need to bond and be close as a family.
